Chicago Area Waterway Rulemaking Continues Without an End in Sight
The Illinois Pollution Control Board (PCB) continues to hold hearings on a comprehensive water quality standards revision impacting the entire Chicago Area Waterway System and Lower Des Plaines River. The waters involved extend from north of the City in Wilmette, where the North Shore channel enters Lake Michigan, to the Interstate-55 Bridge crossing over the Lower Des Plaines River south of Joliet, Illinois. This area is located in both Cook and Will counties. This article looks at these lengthy and important ongoing proceedings.
