California Earmarks American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Funds for Use by Local Agencies in Developing New Transportation Infrastructure and Community Housing
California’s decision to accept American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) aid funds in the form of a number of federal grants potentially makes millions of dollars available to California local agencies, specifically cities and counties, for the development of community housing, infrastructure, and transportation infrastructure. Cities and counties have the opportunity to request and receive a portion of these funds for road improvements and extensions as well as community redevelopment and expansion, all of which are activities that will have appreciable land use impacts. However, in order to obtain such funds cities must comply with the grant request procedures at the federal and state level and use the funds in the manner prescribed by the appropriate supervising authority.
