California Air Resources Board Adopts Bus and Truck Rule and Heavy Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emission Measure to Reduce Environmental Impacts of Diesel Fueled Vehicles

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has adopted two regulations, the Statewide Truck and Bus Rule (Truck and Bus Rule) and the Heavy Duty Vehicle Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Measure (GHG Measure), targeting the reduction of emissions from an estimated one million heavy-duty diesel vehicles that operate in the State of California. The Truck and Bus Rule, among other things, will require installation of diesel exhaust filters on regulated buses and trucks to reduce the emission of air pollutants. The GHG Measure will require installation of fuel efficient tires and aerodynamic devices on certain tractors and trailers to lower greenhouse gas emissions by improving fuel economy.
