  • Nevada State Engineer Curtails Pumping Near Devil’s Hole National Monument

On November 4, 2008, the Nevada State Engineer (State Engineer) issued Ruling 5902 and Order 1197 regarding impacts regional groundwater pumping has had or could have upon federal reserved water rights at Devil’s Hole National Monument. The State Engineer denied an application to change the point of diversion to a point nearer Devil’s Hole, and ordered that future applications within a certain area surrounding the monument would be denied.
