The Obama Administration and Water—New Regulations and Infrastructure Funding Expected in 2009
Since the November election, the Obama transition team has been working to devise a list of state, regional, and local infrastructure projects to be part of the new administration’s economic stimulus package. While transportation infrastructure often steals the limelight from other public works projects, it is expected that the new administration’s stimulus package will include billions of dollars in funding for new and upgraded water and wastewater infrastructure projects. The National Association of Clean Water Agencies has indicated that it expects sewage treatment plants, and stormwater infrastructure to be in line for federal funding. During the campaign, Obama openly promised to increase federal funding for water infrastructure.
