Senate Bill Shoots for AB 32’s Targets with Transportation and Land Use Planning
Senate Bill (SB) 375 has the California Assembly contemplating the links between transportation planning, climate change, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). SB 375 passed the California Senate on June 7, 2007 and is currently in the Assembly’s Appropriations Committee. The bill aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the transportation sector in California by requiring regional transportation plans to use more comprehensive travel demand models that would incorporate a broad range of factors. SB 375 would also require certain regions to incorporate a “sustainable communities strategy” into their regional transportation plans and would provide incentives in the CEQA process for later plans that are consistent with the sustainable communities strategy.
