State Assembly Votes to Approve Bill Designed to Protect Declining Fisheries
On May 29, 2008, the California State Assembly voted 41-31 to approve Assembly Bill 1806, the Fish Rescue Plans Bill, sponsored by Assemblywoman Lois Wolk (D-Davis) which would protect the fisheries in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Delta). The bill calls for the development of protocols to guide implementation of emergency fish rescue plans for the fisheries of the Delta. The bill was introduced in response to the Prospect Island fish incident that occurred when the Bureau of Reclamation drained water from the area to perform levee repairs.
