State Water Board Adopts Resolutions Regarding Delta Protection

On December 4, 2007, the State Water Resources Control Board (State Board) adopted two resolutions related to the State Board’s proposed efforts to restore and protect beneficial uses within the San Francisco Bay/Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta Estuary (Delta). The Central Valley and San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Boards (Regional Board) will likely each adopt a similar resolution proclaiming the coordinated actions the State Board and Regional Boards will take to protect beneficial uses in the Delta. The State Board’s stated plans to protect the Delta come in the shadow of a recent Eastern District Court of California ruling threatening export activities through the Delta. After receiving public comments, State Board staff offered revisions to show the State Board’s intent to coordinate with other statewide efforts to protect the Delta, including the Delta Vision and Bay Delta Conservation Planning processes. Cumulatively, these various efforts promise to inspire continued focus on the Delta in 2008.
