Illinois Undertakes Significant Water Quality Standards Revision for the Chicago Area
An important rulemaking that will affect the future quality of waterways in the Greater Chicago area and Upper Desplaines River has been filed with the Illinois Pollution Control Board by the Illinois EPA. The proposal is to amend the board’s rules for Secondary Contact and Indigenous Aquatic Life Uses to update the designated uses and criteria necessary to protect existing uses. The proposal is In the Matter of: Water Quality Standards and Effluent Limitations for the Chicago Area Waterway System and Lower Des Plaines River Proposed Amendments to 35 Ill. Adm. Code 301, 302, 303, and 304 (R08-9). It was accepted for hearing November 1, 2007. There will be at least two public hearings on this important rule.
