  • Nevada State Engineer Rejects Inter-Basin Transfer Request to Pump Water in Granite Springs Basin for Use in Fernley, Sparks, and Reno Areas

On September 17, 2007, Nevada State Engineer Tracy Taylor issued Ruling 5728, where he rejected the request of Aqua-Trac, LLC, to appropriate up to 130,000 acre-feet annually (AFA) from the Granite Springs Hydrographic Basin (Granite Springs), for quasi-municipal use in the Fernley, Reno, and Sparks areas. The State Engineer rejected the request on the basis that there was not enough water available for appropriation without impacting existing rights and that the request was speculative.
