  • Colorado Legislature Seeks to Fill Gaps in Water Law and Administration

Colorado’s new Democratic-lead legislature has considered a number of water-related bills in this 2007 session dealing with issues such as condemnation of water rights, loans of water rights for instream flows, water quality protection, and the authority of the Colorado State Engineer. While the Senate has yet to vote on the condemnation bill, both the instream flow bill and the water quality protection bill have passed both chambers. A dispute over the Colorado State Engineer’s authority to curtail augmentation plan diversions will not be settled by the legislature, for now, as it was postponed indefinitely by committee.
