Federal District Court Rejects U.S-Colorado Compromise Regarding Federal Reserved Water Rights for Gunnison National Park’s Black Canyon
In an order regarded by environmental groups as a victory for national park preservation and by water users as creating uncertainty in present and future water supplies, the Federal District Court for the District of Colorado rejected a series of agreements between the United States and the State of Colorado regarding the extent of the federal government’s federal reserved water rights for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park (Black Canyon). High Country Citizens Alliance v. Norton, Case No. 03WY01712CB (D. Colo. Sept. 13, 2006).
