U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Issues Proposes Rule to Review National Ambient Air Quality Standards for Particulate Matter
On December 20, 2005, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed a proposed rule to revise current standards for PM10, PM2.5, and secondary particulate matter (PM) standards, through the process set forth in Clean Air Act (CAA) § 109(d)(1), that imposes an obligation that the administrator of EPA complete a thorough review of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) at fiveyear intervals. Following review, the administrator can then suggest revision of current levels to protect public health and welfare.
