  • Madera Irrigation District Purchases 14,000-Acre Ranch to Create Water Bank; County Threatens Suit

    The Madera Irrigation District (MID), on September 15, 2005, purchased a nearly 14,000-acre ranch with the hope of creating a 250,000 acre-foot water bank in the underground aquifer beneath the property. Madera County contends that a county permit is necessary and has threatened to file a lawsuit to block the water bank.
