  • Whittaker Corporation Agrees to Pay over $500,000 to Treat Santa Clarita Well Contaminated with Perchlorate

In May 2005, the Whittaker Corporation (Whittaker) and its insurers agreed to pay more than $500,000 to clean up a well in the Santa Clara River operated by the Valencia Water Company (VWC) that in April 2005 had been found contaminated with perchlorate. The well will be the first to be treated in Santa Clarita for perchlorate contamination. The contaminated water will be treated with an ion exchange system that has already been successfully used in the San Gabriel Valley and the Inland Empire. The settlement was in the case Castaic Lake Water Agency, et al. v. Whittaker Corp. et al., Case No. CV00-12613 AHM(RZx), U.S. District Court, Central District of California.
