Second Circuit Rejects ‘Insular Religious Community’ Defense for Criminal Asbestos Violations
United States v. Marvin and Isaac Rubenstein, ___F.3d___
The Second Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed criminal convictions for violations of the Clean Air Act’s (CAA) work-practice standards for asbestos. The court rejected the defendants’ argument that they lacked knowledge of the dangers of asbestos due to the insular nature of the Hasidic Jewish community in which they lived.
