  • Colorado Water Conservation Board Issues Final Report on the Statewide Water Supply Initiative.

In the 2003 Colorado legislative session, Senate Bill 03-110 authorized funding of $3,000,000 for the Statewide Water Supply Initiative (SWSI), a reconnaissance-level study of water supply and demand in Colorado for the next 30 years evaluating water supply and management project alternatives in each major river basin. The final report, culminating the end of an extensive eighteen month study, was released to the public on November 15, 2004. The study was intended, among other things, to build a consensus among the state’s water users as to which alternatives and strategies should be pursued to tackle Colorado’s growing water demand. Although absolute accord among water users is impossible to obtain, as the voluminous Report acknowledges, this effort constitutes a large and unprecedented step in providing future water decision direction.
