  • IDAHO: Enforcement of Water Quality Regulation and Penalties

Idaho, like many other Western states has long depended upon its natural resources industries, such as mining, timber, and agriculture to drive its economy. Currently, Idaho’s agricultural production yields approximately $3.5 billion per year. Much of the agricultural land of Idaho resides in the semi-arid southern portion of the state where major irrigation projects provide the lifeblood of those lands. Water, both surface and ground is far from abundant. Not surprisingly, these natural resource industries impact water quality in many ways including heavy metal loading, sedimentation through runoff, nutrient loading, as well as the effects of altered stream flows and morphology.
