Angel Island State Park Replaces Discharge of Secondary Treated Effluent to Central San Francisco Bay with Land Disposal to Onsite Subsurface Land Disposal System
Angel Island State Park, located one mile from the Tiburon Peninsula in Central San Francisco Bay,is the largest island in San Francisco Bay. The park, operated by the California Department of parks and Recreation, consists of the hilly, grass and forestcovered island and covers 740 acres. Accessible only by commercial ferries or private boats, the island is rich in historical significance and offers recreational facilities (hiking, biking, camping, boating). The park contains various occupied and unoccupied buildings,residences, and restroom facilities for park visitors.Average visitation to the park is 820 visitors per day in summer and 144 visitors per day in winter. There are approximately 32 full-time residents on the park.
