  • U.S. Secretary of the Interior Prepares to Ratchet Back California's Use of Colorado River Water

    The Secretary of the Interior told attendees at the annual Colorado River Water Users Association conference in Las Vegas that she was prepared to limit California's use of Colorado River water to its 4.4 million acre foot (MAF) annual allocation beginning January 1, 2003, unless California's water interests finalize an historic agreement designed to quantify priorities within the state and to transfer water from agricultural interests along the river to municipalities on the southern coast.
